SUMMARY:2022 Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Aloha ECORA Clubs & Guests – Sending you a warm hello on a cold snowy day.  I don’t know about all of you\, but after all of this snow\, I’m ready for warmer weather and paddling.  Hoping the groundhog does not see its shadow and we are in for an early spring! \n\nLooking forward to seeing you online next weekend.  If you are like me\, I plan to be there\, but I haven’t actually sent in my registration.   Please don’t wait until the last minute!  Here is the link to register: \nhttps://binghamton.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJcoduutpzoqGdYHLRTSt4VF15p4nopxYAsc \nAlso\, we have had requests to send the invite to all members of a club.  Normally we have not limited attendees to the live meetings\, however\, managing a large Zoom meeting\, could be interesting.  We are going to give it a go on accommodating.  Please bear with us as we work through it.  In addition\, we will need two things from you in order to make this all work: \n\nPlease send us an email on who will be your designated voter.\nWe will try to give you a few minutes to gather information prior to voting\, however\, please make alternative arrangements for gathering input so we don’t run long.\n\nFor those clubs that are not yet members\, we ask that your leadership attend.\nLots of good stuff to discuss and we believe it will be a busy few months up the start of a more normal year of racing. \nSee you soon! \nJen

SUMMARY:1st ECORA Season Opener (Virtual) - 10 Mile Roundtrip.
DESCRIPTION:Aloha ECORA (& Honored Guest) Paddlers –The weather has warmed and we are all getting back on the water!  I don’t know about you\, but I am looking forward to “live” events later in the year more than ever!  However\, let’s start the ECORA season off with a virtual race\, a way to start getting us back together (even if just virtually) and building those competitive muscles back up. \nWe are excited to welcome you back to team paddling this year!  ECORA is going to open the season with a Virtual 10-mile Season Opener will run from June 28th through July 18th.   Race fee will be $10/person or $50/team of 6. \nI am sure you have some questions: \nYes\, it is another “virtual” race.  Why participate?  \nThree simple reasons: \n\nYou are going to be training anyway\, so why not participate and check your time against others?  There is no time like the present to start getting ready for the season.\nYou have a chance to virtually bring together your team.  What a great way to re-establish friendships!\nThere are awards (explained below).\n\nRace Structure:  \n1.     Required for awards:  Teams of 6 in any of the below Divisions. (But\, if you don’t want to get a team together and just want to race for time (and a medal) that’s cool too!) \n\n\n\nWhat makes up a team?\n\nAn OC6 crew\nAn OC2 crew plus 4 OC1s\nA bike\, a kayak\, an OC1\, a tandem surfski\, and a SUP.\n\n\n\n\n\nYou get the picture right?  Any combination of six. \n2.     Divisions:  OC1\, OC2\, OC6 (spec)\, OC6 (unlimited)\, Surfski\, Tandem Surfski\, Sea Kayak\, Kayak\, SUP\, Running\, and Biking. \n3.     Categories: \n\n\n\nAge:  Under 18\, 18-39\, 40+\, 50+\, 60+\n\nTeams will be registered in their lowest age category\n\n\nGender: Women\, Men\, Mixed\n\n\n\n4.     Ranking by category/Division/age will be calculated.  If a division/gender/age group doesn’t have 3 entries\, we will combine ages until there is a category of 3. \n5.     Top performers will receive medals. \n6.     Points will be awarded to teams as follows: \n\n\n\nTurning in a completed time = 1 point per person (OC6s…you have it pretty easy)\nWhole team from the same club = 6 points\nPlacing in a division:  1st Place = 10 points\, 2nd = 7 points\, 3rd = 5 points\nCompleted times submitted with a picture from your workout tracker (e.g\, Garmin\, Strava\, etc) = 1 point\nEach picture posted on Social Media with #EastCoastOutrigger = 1 point\nTeams complete race in matching race shirts = 6 points\nIndividual team members complete their qualifying times:  Same day = 6 points\, Within 3 days = 3 points\, within 5 days = 1 point\n\n\n\nAwards  \n\nCourse Time:  Top 3 places in each division/category will receive an ECORA Virtual Race Medal\nAwards go to the teams with the most points\n\nChoice of*:\n\nA High Noon Cooler\nRowHouse Membership (1 mo in person)\nWaterproof Speaker\nA steering blade\nECORA shirts\nHigh Noon Hats\nEmergency First Aid Kits\n\n\n\n\n\n*Under 21 are not eligible for High Noon\, but we’ll get you covered with cool stuff still! \nTo register:  Gather your team!  Just a reminder\, you all can do different things\, but a team of 6 gets you into the big awards. \nDecide on your team name:  You’ll need this to register \nAll team members need to click on the link and register so we have contact details for mailing awards.  If you are paying for the group\, you’ll have a couple of extra steps. \nPlease register here to participate:  https://forms.gle/HVavSqrHfj3KNEfc8 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2021 ECORA’s First Virtual Season Opener Race\nRace Registration: Open to All Whether you participate in an OC6 or any other craft. If you pull together a team of 6 (can be an OC6 or a combo of the other categories)\, your team is eligible for group awards. (All team members need to register) Your race course will be 10-miles (round trip) from wherever you start.\nforms.gle\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration can be paid through either of the following: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPayPal: @ECORATreasurer  \nVenmo: @ECORA \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA link for reporting your results will be sent once registrations have been confirmed. \nPaddles up and good luck!! \nJen

SUMMARY:Kumu Ohu - REPLACED WITH Kumu'NOhu (Virtual Challenge)
DESCRIPTION:May 2\, 2020 — was to have been WCC’s season-opening home small boats race\, Kumu’ohu. It’s been canceled\, so I propose we run Kumu’NOhu instead. While it promises to be but a pale comparison to a regular race\, hopefully it can provide an opportunity for folks to stay together while apart\, get some exercise and competition\, have some fun\, and raise a little money for charity. Here’s how it’ll work… \n\nLike its progenitor\, Kumu’NOhu is a 15k small craft race. Unlike its progenitor\, you do not need to come to WCC to compete\, and there will be awards in divisions for all water-\, land-\, and basement-based forms of human-powered locomotion: OC1\, OC2 (same household pairs only)\, SUP\, surf ski\, sprint kayak\, sprint canoe\, sea kayak\, rec kayak\, C1\, C2 (same household pairs only)\, paddle erg\, rowing erg\, running on foot\, road bike\, mountain bike\, stationary bike\, Rollerblades\, NordicTrac\, snowshoe\, pedal-powered ultralight aircraft… \nHere’s how you enter and compete: \n1. Either this Saturday or Sunday\, do 15k as fast as you can via human-powered transport on what you judge to be a fair course. Time yourself. \n2. If you wish\, make a donation to Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen or a similar charity of your choice\, or convince others to do the same in your name — this in lieu of a race entry fee (see “Adjusted Time” below for an added incentive to give and recruit others to donate in your name). \n3. Then\, submit your name\, gender affiliation (open\, women’s\, or mixed — 2-person same household pairs only)\, age class (junior\, open\, masters\, senior masters\, golden masters\, platinum masters\, generation gap)\, division (see above)\, donation amount (if any)\, and time via this Google form. \nIf you would like to race from WCC\, please observe the club’s distancing precautions by signing up for a Saturday start time on this Google sheet. Please observe the limit of 4 entrants per time. \n\nThe course from WCC is as follows: from the club seal\, down through the Roosevelt Island cut and Memorial Bridge and the 14th St bridges to the first red buoy\, back upstream on the DC side of Roosevelt Island through Key Bridge to Mile Rock\, from Mile Rock back to the club then back up to Mile Rock then back down to the club.  \n\n\nHit hard and stay safe. I look forward to not seeing all of you on the water next weekend\, but to receiving your race information and time. (I do look forward to seeing all of you on the water in the hopefully not-too-distant future.) See below for added competitive wrinkles. \n\n\nCheers\, \n\n\nNate \n\n\n“This all sounds simple enough — isn’t there some way we could complicate this to make it more fun and confusing?” –But of course! There are three ways race times will be evaluated: \n\n1. Course time against other competitors in the same division\, age\, etc. \nCourse time — how long it took the competitor to complete the course \n2. Adjusted time against other competitors in the same division\, age\, etc. \nAdjusted time — one minute will be subtracted from your time for every $10 you donate or raise for Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen or a similar charity — again\, this is instead of a race entry fee. Proof of donation not required\, just truthfully attest to your fundraising amount when submitting your name\, time\, and other info when you submit your other registration info to the Google form (see above) \n3. Grand Sweepstakes against all other competitors across all divisions within the same gender affiliation. \nGrand Sweepstakes — adjusted times from all divisions\, age classes\, etc. will be stacked up against each other using the conversion chart (see below) to produce Grand Sweepstakes Kumu’NOhu first\, second\, and third place winners \nGrand Sweepstakes Time Conversions (this is FYI; please submit your course time only and the race director’s daughter\, age 9\, will perform the conversion calculations — conversion calculations are somewhat arbitrary and capricious and may not be completely fair — not unlike life) \nIf you are racing… \nOC1\, standard/marathon C2\, sea kayak: no time adjustment made \nsprint C1\, paddle erg: 5 minutes will be added to your time \nOC2\, sprint kayak\, sprint C2\, solo surf ski\, running: 15 minutes added \nK2 (sprint or ski)\, rowing erg: 25 minutes added \n\nmountain bike: 50 minutes added \n\n\nroad bike\, stationary bike: 65 minutes added \n\nSUP\, rec kayak: 30 minutes will be subtracted from your time OR paddle a 10k course instead of 15k (please self-report) \nmarathon C1: 10 minutes subtracted \nother: make me an offer \n\n
